Led by Lt. Shelby Kervin and Det. Johnnie Dudeck of the Plano Police Department, this overview of Active Shooter Training will be provided for IBPSA Members to provide strategies, guidance, and a proven plan to survive active shooter events. Developed by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT), this webinar will also include an overview of the understanding of the human body's mental and physical responses to high stress incidents.


Lieutenant Shelby Kervin began his law enforcement career with the Plano Police Department in July 2007. Throughout his 16-year tenure, he has served as a patrol officer and school resource officer before being promoted to Sergeant. Following this promotion, he returned to the field as a patrol supervisor before being selected to oversee and investigative unit specializing in family violence and crimes against children. He was promoted to Lieutenant in July 2020 as patrol watch commander and is now serving as the Homeland Security and Special Events Lieutenant. He holds a Master's Peace Officer license, Department of Homeland Security Master Trainer designation, and is a certified ALERRT instructor. He is passionate about engaging with and educating the public on preparedness in the face of an emergency. 

Detective Johnnie Dudeck has been employed by the Plano Police Department since 2000. While employed with the Plano Police Department he was a Public Safety Officer from 2000 until 2001. From 2001 until 2008 Detective Dudeck was assigned to the Patrol Services Division where he worked nights. During assignment in the Patrol Services Division Detective Dudeck became a Field Training Officer. In 2008 Detective Dudeck transferred to the Criminal Investigative Services Division. In the Criminal Investigation Services Division Detective Dudeck investigates primarily property crimes and trains new detectives as well as light duty personnel in his unit. Prior to employment with Plano Police Department Detective Dudeck served in the United States Army. Detective Dudeck served as Medical Specialist (Combat Medic) in Artillery, Infantry and Cavalry units. Detective Dudeck later changed his MOS to Psychological Operations Specialist
