
The IBPSA Pet Care Business Excellence Awards, nicknamed the IBBYs, were established by the International Boarding & Pet Services Association (IBPSA) to honor those businesses raising the bar for professionalism and success in the pet care services industry.
The IBBYs are awarded to individuals or organizations who demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
- Vision/Leadership
- Animal Welfare
- Company/Employee Culture
- Customer Service
- Community Involvement
- Ongoing Commitment to Learning/Growth/Development

A Facility is defined as a single location OR multiple locations where employees are shared equally across locations. Examples include boarding facilities, dog daycares, training facilities, grooming salons, etc. Facilities must meet the following criteria:
- The business has a reputation for integrity and a high level of customer service in the community.
- The business, its owners, and/or its employee(s) participate and/or support community and industry-related activities.
- The business demonstrates excellence in animal welfare.
- The business demonstrates excellence in a particular facet of the business such as service, product, marketing, HR, etc.
- The business has a positive company culture and keeps their team engaged in achieving goals of the organization.
Each nominated facility or business must be a member in good standing of IBPSA and show that they have been operational and completed three or more fiscal years at the time of the nomination deadline. Nominees demonstrate professional integrity, excellence in customer service, success through innovation and a commitment to the community. - Facility Small Business (1-15 Employees; including owners)
- Facility Medium Business (16-49 Employees; including owners)
- Facility Large Business (50+ Employees; including owners
- Independent Operator: This award recognizes an independent service provide such as a pet-sitter, dog walker, mobile groomer, dog trainer, etc that does not have a brick-and-mortar facility and operates as a solo operator without staff
- Industry Partner: Awarded to a Vendor Member in good standing with the IBPSA at the time of the nomination deadline. To verify whether the business that you have in mind is an IBPSA Member, please see the current Vendor Directory
- Industry Leader: This award recognizes individuals and organizations who have made outstanding efforts to improve the pet care industry through humanitarian or animal welfare efforts and/or education and industry development.
